TALLAHASSEE - Hundreds of Katrina evacuees who fled to Tallahassee seeking refuge from the storm have been politely told by their hotels and motels to leave this weekend to make room for a football game: FSU vs. Miami.

I'll remember to stay at a ramada next time I need a hotel.

Um, and you think that is not happening here in Austin, too? At least in Tuscaloosa they made a plea to fans to do the right thing and let the hurricane evacuees keep their hotel rooms.

Is that actually happening here in Austin?

No, I do not have direct knowledge of hurricane evacuees in Austin being turned out by local hotels. It's just that game weekends are big business in Austin (with reservations happening months in advance), and most hotels will honor existing reservations. When I saw what U of Alabama was doing, I rather hoped other schools (such as UT) would follow suit. It doesn't look like that is going to be the case.

ok, i CAN now dance and celebrate. Was so very worried about Fats Domino, who had refused to leave his home in New Orleans. I made mention of no one knowing whether he was alive or dead in a previous post to your LJ yesterday (as in on dealing with various connotations of "Katrina". A dude on Ted Koppel's "Nightline" was talking as if Fats was definitely dead, as in, "Well, how could he survive this? He's old, but he refused to leave, blah, blah. . ."
Was expecting my boy to wind up being one of those dead bodies that folks just had to ignore because they had higher priorities in New Orleans so I was thinking: no one will even know if he's dead or where he is. . .sniff! sniff!

But now that I know my bad boy is alive and well it's time to find my copy of "Blueberry Hill" and CELEBRATE!
