Vile Bodies
Dec. 24th, 2006 05:55 pmI first read Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh in college, it was assigned in a upper division english class on Novels I took in the summer in order to try and get everything I needed to graduate. Never take a class on novels during an accelerated summer semester, it's like sucking on a literature firehose. But I came away with a great deal of affection for this story, the funny biting satire on inter-war upper class english flappers and bon vivants he described seemed oddly related to the odd literate drug using circles I found myself in, a similar sort of dancing on the deck of a ship gored by icebergs of existential malaise.
I just watch Stephen Fry's "Bright Young Things" and thought it was a rather adept take on the story. Well worth the time to watch.
