Derp just mentioned this game:

it rocketh mightiest

additionally, ran across this on cnn:

The report also highlights funding gaps within school districts, which often result from differences in how salaries are distributed. In general, wealthier schools have more senior, higher-paid teachers.

For example in Austin, Texas -- a city with one of the largest salary gaps -- the average teacher salary at the poorest school is $3,837 less than the average teacher salary at the wealthiest school, the study found.

Weird, Austin tends to think of itself as a very egalitarian and it really is in many ways. I wonder if they are comparing apples, are they comparing westlake/eanes to the east side or are they comparing within Austin. I wonder if it is even reasonable to make that distinction.

I am really looking forward to seeing what the flood of cash the downtown condo boom is going to have on schools on the near eastside. The schools over there are really frightening compared to the ones in my neighborhood. But the places that really need help are out in the sticks, like smithville, dimebox, goldwaithe, etc. they'll get a little money but the problem is that there is a LOT of stupid out in small town texas. More than I saw in small towns in the west half of this country. They are all hard core conservative (but honestly not necessarily republican) and consider taxes a necessary sin and the land prices are just not that good.

The campo plan of making a series of small town exurbs with high speed mass transit funneling people in to austin is their best hope, but I don't think they're flexible enough to adapt. I think they're too damn set in their ways and scared of the change they'll dig their heels in and refuse to co-operate in the plan.

Still, at least east austin will get better, and who knows with as long as this war looks like it is going to be in business the Ft. Hood communities will grow and prosper.

Everyone tends to think of the military as conservative, which while true fails to acknowledge the strong element of meritocracy it contains which means stupid stubbornness is not always rewarded. The military has always tended to be more egalitarian than the average of america (at least the people in Texas and the south). It brings in people from all over, sends them out of country, and is the blenderstick in the american melting pot.

Plus, stupid people tend to get shot more often, which will have a infinitesimal but perceptible effect on them as a whole. But I wonder if it's enough to get them to buy monorails.

I've seen this same basic quiz before, but this one has been updated and is actually pretty accurate if a bit transparent.

So one of the valid criticism of me at work is that I tend to make & send notes which are brief to the point of being cryptic (and leads to what I consider an invalid criticism, that this makes me seem "terse").

I made the following 2 notes in a case:

Now I think tech support person worth 45k/year should be able to figure that out. It does require some unix familiarity but not an extra-ordinary amount, the only thing in those lines that really should require any explanation at all is that "lf" is an alias command for a script called "logfetch" and "ffd_info" is our MTA's error log.

Oh this is too priceless,

The NRA is apparently decided that Jack Chick has the right idea and the way to persuade people to your cause is a bombastic hyperbolic cartoon pamphlet.

No, really
