What the fuck is wrong with Texas?

I'll tell you what the fuck is wrong with Texas. Our public school funding system is a cruel joke.

My house is in an odd jurisdiction, it's covered by 3 different taxing entities (technically I'm in 5, but 3 are collected by one). It's a fairly modest house, built in 84, solidly middle class, ~149-155K (depending on which appraiser looks at it). I just made out my taxes and I am paying the following:

Travis County:
-Travis County: 620.62
-Hospital District: 96.83
-Emergency Services District (#4):152.58
total: 870.03

North Austin Municipal Utility District #1:
total: 699.18

Round Rock Independant School District:
total: 2573.61

4142.83 in property taxes, 2.7% of the value of my house, so I have to essentiall buy my house all over every 37.5 years. The signifigant majority of which goes to pay for the public school system, which while it's one of the better ones in Texas is not nearly as good as those numbers should buy.

you want them to just let go, own the emotion and experience it

but you want to know what happens if they do? the emotion just goes on and on, it goes on until the last drop of blood slides out of their heart and there's nothing for the emotion to ride on, and nothings changed, nothing helps

all you are left with is exhaustion

the idea is you then have a stable base in reality at that point from which you can go forward and make a life that isn't such a shuddering ball of fear and pain
