yeah I could have, but I did that for the 7 years we owned the house before this and I was very unhappy with it. I live in a complicated jurisdiction and I pay three different tax bills, one of which is collected by a jurisdiction I don't live in. So they were forever screwing up my tax payments and i would have to take time out of my life to deal with it, they fight with them to try to get the bank to pay penalty and intrest on the taxes. And then have to do it all over again year after next.
This way at least I get to keep the intrest I make off the money I saved. I owe myself about 2K plus the money that covered the checks. But the fact it wasn't sitting in an evil escrow account means I only got billed for 5 overdrafts and one nsf instead of 6 nsfs
