Some of this is just the result of the economic decline, but Mass transit use has been on the rise, Up over 4% for Dec08 over Dec07 well after gas prices went back to more normal levels.

Train Wreck

oopsy, looks like the opening of the Austin rail line has been delayed indefinitely

seems that the operators supplied by veolia transportations haven't been waiting for the green light like they are supposed to

this is particularly acute because, remember that nasty train accident in california last fall? It was caused by engineers not obeying signals when running passenger rail on lines shared with freight rail, just like they're going to be running here.
