I am incensed at the WV doctor's walk out. Doctor's refuse to take the necessary steps to clean up their own profession. They don't want data on their mistakes publically available, they refuse to take the reccomended steps to reduce medical mistakes, and they don't do enough to remove the bumblers and inept from the ranks of their profession.
5% of doctors cause 50% of the malpractice suits

they want tort reform reducing their liability? Ok, but that means they have to open up, publically note mistakes, support a database of physician caused problems, actively buy into medical practice reform, and actively remove the medical license from the people who can't cut the mustard.

Date: 2003-01-02 11:19 pm (UTC)Early December, he went in for x-rays and an MRI (after about half a year of prior, kindler treatment.) He then meets with his neurosurgeon, who says "They shot the wrong area. These are great images, but they're about 6" too high."
Of course, Christmas was coming up, so the doc's office was slow requesting new scans. They didn't get around to doing it until after xmas. Then, well, it's New Years, and the imaging office is short handed, so they told him to call back sometime next week to see about even making an appointment.
When dad saw the neurosurgeon, the doc told him that one of his legs is larger than the other, likely due to pinching problems through his spine causing a shortage of blood to that entire side of his body. Net delay just from the imaging screw up - at least one month. He's unable to work because it's so bad, and frequently can't even sleep for 2-3 nights at a time due to the pain. But no one seems to be held accountable (or unpaid) whenever there's a screw up.
