NPR morning
Dec. 10th, 2006 12:22 pmWow,
I have had a nearly perfect NPR morning.
It's a cool-cold fall day, there are leaves on the ground and midway through the morning it started quietly raining. I slept in late (been working the late shift at work so I can do that) and woke up to NPR on my radio as usual. I mostly dozed through the news for an hour and finally got out of bed do to bladder preassure just as one of my favorite shows was coming on at its new time. So I got back in bed and pet my dogs and listened to On the media".
Then This American Life was doing a bit on "reruns", and there was this one introductory bit with a producer for the show who has this insane prediliction towards watching reruns of tv shows (even bad ones and ones she actively dislikes) because they make her feel comfortable and I am wavering antinomy between a gut level despite for this "how could someone waste so much of their life on the most vapid of the vapid" and an empathy pondering the comfort things I do that would no doubt produce the same level of distaste in others. This short 5-10 minute bit is more than enough to hook me as she then goes into a long story about a movie that is really worth you going and listenting to.
Towards the end the dogs and I were getting restless so I started picking up the bedroom and sorting laundry while I listened. And following right on the heels of "Life" was radiolab so this fascinating segment on auditory perception, perfect pitch and and stravinsy with all kinds of nifty aural hooks and compellingly fascinating stuff so I just keep doing laundry and listening to this utterly worthwhile radio show.
I finally had to turn off the radio before I heard what came on next just so I could leave my bedroom.
