Motorcycles
Aug. 6th, 2006 11:40 amForsooth I am getting excited about by the class this week. I am expecting to buy a motorcycle within a couple weeks of completing the class (thought I may wait longer for delivery if I get a new one in order to get exactly what I want). I've been thinking about motorcycles since I was in third grade but never completed the deal.
What I want is a "middleweight cruiser", in my perfect world a '98 Virago 750, but anything in the 500-750cc range and more or less cruiser styled. I feel embaressed at the vanity but my lard ass would look rediculous on something like this:

That's the BMW 650GS, it's a very nice bike (all BMW bikes are nice as far as I can tell) but that's as close as they get to cruisers these days.
I've always liked this segment of motorcycles and read about them (link). For most of the 90's (and even the eighties) the major manufacturers produced pretty much the same bikes year in/year out. This evidently changed radically in the last couple years, a lot of the old models I liked are no longer for sale or available in only a small version.
I'd like a shaft drive (or possibly a kevlar belt) for the low maintenance, but I want water cooling because if things happen as I expect I will be commuting on it. Prefer disk brakes front and back but I could live with drum rear. It would also be nice if the front and rear wheels resembled each other (I never got the skinny front tire thing).
