So today was our quartely meeting, "our" in this case being the operations team, which strangly includes not just the actual operations team, but customer care (phone support) & enterprise services (TAMs and activation) essentialy everyone under "our" vice president, jocelyn (4 layers up from me). Beasically we go over the company's performance for the second quarter, compared vs previous quarter and previus year looking at actual vs estimate from last quarter, and the plan from the beginning of the year. Look at what we estimate for third quarter and go over what the various teams did and what they are expecting to do next quarter.

We're doing well, which means we'll probably fill some of the open reqs that have been causing life in support to be pretty hectic for the last 13 weeks. The first quarter had some problems that made people tighten down (a bit too much I think). The company has been making an effort at providing more tangible rewards, so they assigned us some goals (99.999% up time, >95% surveyed customer satisfaction, cost per message processed below a certain number, cost per support case below another number, and some other similar metric), and since we met 4 of the 5 they gave us our tangible inducement: a 2G Ipod Nano.

It's a sweet little toy but what really blew me away was the packaging, I seem to remember hearing someone else say something about it but it is really fantastic. It is a fucking apple stock advertisement in and of itself.

They bought us bagels to begin the day, then pizza for lunch. And then we spent the afternoon doing a teambuilding exercise, because they had no budget we just went to zilker park, we were going to swim but it's closed for cleaning on thursdays, we played a couple games of volly ball and did cheesy family feud like game with all the questions about work things.

Have I mentioned that I think my company really does do some things very, very well?
