yendi has been writing a series of loving reviews of the friday the 13th series of movies. I've never been a big horror afficianado, but I've always felt these were particularly repugnant but couldn't figure out why. They're not extraordinarily more gory than many other movies I've delighted in, nor do they speak to any particular dark terror in my soul and they sure as hell don't feature superlative acting, directing, writing, etc.

I think, after reading the reviews, that the thing I fundamentally object to is the morality of them, the entire premarital (or any other kind) sex leads to viscous murder coda. It's a very common theme in a lot of movies but you don't see it as vibrantly bare anywhere but the Friday the 13th movies. That's such a sick little meme to propagate, the amount of anxiety that this evil in the back of peoples heads when they have sex has caused is just inexcusable.
