So I stole this interesting image from a NYT article:

Nearly 1 in 7 houses, apartments etc. are empty, much more than at any time in my life.

Which makes for some scary inferences about homelessness.

I've been considering it as a prospect for my future. I don't think it is likely but the possibility really exists if I can't find a job in the next few months. I can probably find a friend or relative who will put me and my dogs up if the worst comes, but I am not all that worried. I've lived in a tent before and could do it again (though the extra 20 years and hundred pounds would make things harder). The thing that worries me about that is how vulnerable I would become. It is so easy to get slightly hurt and have things snowball. And it can be so difficult to accumulate enough cash to get off the skids. Being poor is much more expensive than being middle class.
